365 Days of Music
Everyone is blogging these days it seems. Google blog and an endless amount of blogs to pick from are at a touch of your fingertips. Blogs about gardening, blogs about camping. Blogs about renovation, blogs about interior decorating. Philosophy, Psychology, going green, raising kids, breeding pets, farming and city living, how to do this, and how to do that. The list goes on. There are even blogs about nothing, just day to day life.
Blogging your day to day life is just fine if you are interesting or have a great talent for making your life seem interesting. Many people have made a living out of doing so, and they do it well. That is, however, not me. While I love my life, it is no more glamorous than a pile of laundry waiting to be folded. I should actually be doing that now. This conclusion has led me to the search for something meaningful in my life to blog about. While watching Julie & Julia a while back, the thought of blogging about a particular subject of interest for a whole year seemed very appealing to me. It would have to be something with great variety and endless options, as 365 days can be a very long time to blog on one thing imparticular. I thought about a photo blog as I would be purchasing a new camera this year for family photos. However, everyone and their aunt & uncle is doing this, plus I also have a friend who is currently doing a 365 day photo blog & is doing a much better job than I ever could. My photos lack direction & knowledge, no matter how expensive my camera might be.
Then, just last week while surfing the web for more songs to download to my IPOD ( popular songs from the nineties), I stumbled across a song that I hadn't heard or thought about in years. The song brought out a real melancholy feeling as I visited a memory from my past, tucked away deep in my subconscious. Music has a way of doing this to people. A melody recorded for all time, taking various moments and emotions with it. It was then I decided that would be my thing. That would be my 365... 365 days of music. The objective would be to blog about a different song selected from a master list at random. I would blog about it's content, when it was released ,by whom it belonged, and it's relevance & influence on my life.
Now, I am not claiming to be the only person to have ever done this, nor will I be the last. I claim no copy rights, and if you read this intro and decide that this is something you would like to do as well, more power to you. I do not care. Also note, not every great singer/composer/performer will be on this list. I am not intending every song to be great, or have made any billboard lists at any point. Only that each particular song has influenced me at one point in my life. Music taste varies so much from one person to the next that I don't think I could assemble such a list that everyone would love.
On my list, I shall also include some songs & artists unknown to me. If I am not expanding in my selection, I am not growing and what would be the fun in that. Great music is born everyday and with it new emotions and experiences to be tagged with it. With all that said, I am very excited to begin this project. I will listen to one song each morning, let it sit with me through the day, and blog about it at night, once the kids are in bed. Hopefully I can keep up. Soo...Day 1. March 8th, 2010. Let it begin.

P.S. I want to apologize to all my friends who only listen to family friendly tunes or inspirational hymns. This blog may not be for you. I was once a rebel. And a teenager at that. Enough said.
