Come a little closer

Day 1

--STATS--

Artist: Dierks Bently, born 1975

Genre: Country

Album: Modern Day Drifter

Released: 2005 with two hit singles & platinum honors

Come a little closer baby,
I feel like layin' you down
in a bed of sweet surrender,
where we can work it all out.
There ain't nothing that love can't fix.
Girl, it's right here at our fingertips.
So come a little closer baby,
I feel like layin' you down.

Come a little closer baby,
I feel like lettin' go
of everything that stands between us,
and the love we use to know.
I wanna touch you like a cleansing rain,
and let it wash all the hurt away.
So come a little closer baby,
I feel like lettin' go.

If theres still a chance, then take my hand
and we'll steal away
off into the night,
and make things right.
The suns gonna rise on a better day.

Come a little closer baby,
I feel like strippin' it down
back to the basics of you & me,
and what makes the world go round.
Every inch of you agaisnt my skin,
I wanna be stronger than we've ever been.
So come a little closer baby,
I feel like strippin' it down.

Come a little closer baby.
Just a bit closer baby.
Come a little closer baby,
I feel like layin' you down.

The first time I remember hearing this song was in the spring of 2007. I was a nanny for a family with a little boy, and also a new parent to my daughter, Taylor. Since they were both fairly young, I had a lot of down time at the house. During their two to three hour naps, I would indulge in their dish network watching Law & Order, Judging Amy, and yes, at times, I got sucked into MTV's The Hills (Luckily that phase has passed.), but in the afternoons during floor & snack time, I needed something a little more low Key playing in the background. MTV was out of the question, & even VH1 seemed a bit inappropriate. Though I was just easing back into the country music scene after years of boycotting due to overexposure by my mother and growing up in a small "one-horse town" (in reality, horses dominated the town.), I thought it to be the best pick. The song was an immediate hit with me, being won over with the deep sincere lyrics and yes-- the very hot Dierks Bently of whom I had never seen or heard before. I felt we needed to get acquainted with each other. So we did. Meg's kick-ass mix 2007 included such song. Number 15. I played it all Spring & summer. If you haven't seen the music video, see it.

This song brings me back to the year leading up to my wedding in November. Everything felt just a little more romantic than usual. Come a little closer seemed to be a fixture for my year, and it was among the top five songs I considered for our first dance together. In the end, Please Forgive me by Bryan Adams won out. Still, this song always brings back good memories and the feeling of change, hope, and anticipation. Best enjoyed in the spring, or summer in my opinion. I can see cherry blossoms, a small breeze blowing, laying in a long bladed grassy field on a blanket....or can envision this played on a hot summers night at a barn dance, much like the one I always wanted, but never had. Playing it today ( at least four times!) has certainly left me longing for Spring to arrive. However, snow is in our forecast. Oh well-- at least the laundry is done. One small victory at a time.

Let's sum this up, shall we? Overall, this song is sweet, sincere, seductive, & would be fabulous when played during a barn dance. I'm thinking I should pull out my one pair of cowboy boots & wear them while doing the dishes. I can't think of a better way to wrap up this country-themed day.

So, what about you? What does this song mean to you? Maybe something or maybe nothing. This blog is nothing without comments, so plz. drop me a few.
