Beautiful wreck

Day 29

--STATS--

Artist: Shawn Mullins

Genre: Alternative rock/Folk rock

Album: 9th ward pickin' parlor

Released: 2006

I've lost count of the times I've given up on you,
but you make such a beautiful wreck, you do.
There's a tavern on the corner called The Milky Way,
and you look so at home there it makes me afraid.

And at the dark end of this bar,
what a beautiful wreck you are.
When you go too far,
beautiful wreck you are.

Well, all the plans that you had from seven years ago,
like the promises you make, I watched them come and go.
You put your keys in the car, but it wouldn't drive,
with your hands on the wheel lookin' barely alive.
I'm still sitting here waiting on the passenger side,
for you to make up your mind,
for you to make up your mind.

And at the dark end of this bar,
what a beautiful wreck you are.
When you go too far,
beautiful wreck you are.
What a beautiful, such a beautiful,
beautiful wreck you are.
What a beautiful, such a beautiful wreck...

I've lost count of the times I've given up on you,
but you make such a beautiful wreck, you do.
yeah, you make such a beautiful wreck, you do.

And at the dark end of this bar,
what a beautiful wreck you are.
When you go too far,
beautiful wreck you are.
What a beautiful, such a beautiful,
beautiful wreck you are.
What a beautiful, such a beautiful,
beautiful wreck you are...

Real quick I just want to say, what's with all the folk rock all a sudden? I swear I'm picking these at random.Well, what ever the reason, this was my song for Monday. (Wow, I am almost caught up!) I like Shawn Mullins for his easy going-t-shirt & jeans wearing style, & his fun music I can play cards or shoot some pool to. I would expect to here this song at some hole in the wall bar, like the one I use to live around the corner from. Hmm...was this song written about me?

Though this album came out in 2006, I didn't hear this song played much until the summer of 2008. Then I heard it all the time. It's possible I just wasn't listening to the right stations. What ever the cause, I love it. The number is lively, & I enjoy the video as well. During the summer of 2008, I was pregnant with my son & second child, Aiden. I had left my job as a nanny to four dazzling children, & was home full time with my daughter, Taylor. That time was quite a transition for us. Taylor especially. She went from having four other playmates & having plenty of activities to do to just one sluggish mother who could barely muster up the strength to take her to the playground. Not to mention the night time meltdowns as her perfectly routine schedule went out the door. Such a frustrating yet liberating time. We had no other obligations but to each other. Eventually, I did get it together & had an enjoyable summer. Plenty of trips to the zoo, park & coast before my son cam into her existence on the 24th of August. Such cherished times. That's what this song reminds me of, as do many others from this time period.

What about? What does this song mean to you?
