Woo hoo! Yee hoo!
Woo hoo! Yee hoo!
Woo hoo! Yee hoo!
Woo hoo! Yee hoo!

If I could escape, I would, but first of all let me say
I must apologize for acted stank & treatin' you this way.
Cuz I've been acting like sour milk all on the floor,
it's your fault you didn't shut the refrigerator,
maybe that's the reason I've been acting so cold!

If I could escape, and re-create a place that's my own world,
and I could be your favorite girl,
(forever) perfectly together.
Tell me, boy now wouldn't that be sweet.

If I could be sweet, I know I've been a real bad girl,
I didn't mean for you to get hurt.
(Forever) We can make it better.
Tell me boy, now wouldn't that be sweet?
(The sweet escape)

Woo hoo! ( I wanna get away) Yee hoo!
Woo hoo! (To our sweet escape) Yee hoo!
Woo hoo! (I wanna get away) Yee hoo!
Woo hoo! (Yea) Yee hoo!

You melt me down, I'm at my lowest boiling point,
Come help me out, I need to get me outta this joint.
come on, Let's bounce! I'm counting on you to turn me around,
instead of clowning around, let's look for some common ground.

So baby, time's are gettin' a little crazy.
I've been gettin' a little lazy, waitin' fr you to come save me.
I can tell that your angry by the way that you treat me.
Hopefully you don't leave me, I wanna take you with me.

If I could escape, I would, but first of all let me say
I must apologize for acted stank & treatin' you this way.

Oh yes. The relationship in a bit of trouble in need of a face lift. Yep. Been there, done that. Where was this song when I needed it? Still in the creative mind of my home-girl Gwen, one of the only artist to survive past the 90's with success into the 21rst century without compromising her sound or music. No Doubt is still No Doubt, Gwen is still Gwen. Not an easy feat, considering the 90's & times now are almost like night & day, in my opinion.

What I loved about No Doubt was there different sound. Though their genre is not unique to them & they definitely weren't the first Ska rock band to emerge in the late 80's, early 90's. However, their combined writing style & almost chaotic way of throwing a melody & rhythm together brought something all their own to the scene. I can only imagine the jam sessions were absolute beautiful chaos. From watching the chemistry on stage, it was very apparent they had all known each other a very long time. However, long time friends brings deep rooted relationships, which brings with it emotional term-oil & personal disagreements. They still remained one of the strongest groups of the 90's in spite of it all.

When Gwen went solo in 2004, I was excited to see what she might produce all her own, though I was a bit nervous & skeptical as well. I of course bought the album right away when it hit stores late 2004. Though slow to warm up to some tracks, the brilliance of the recording eventually hit. Gwen's talent for oddly placed lyrics & retro-cool beats is very apparent. This girl will make you dance.

When her second solo album came out late 2006, again, I had to buy it straight away. Once again, slow to warm up. Her music is so strange & offbeat sometimes, that I feel to appreciate it, it has to take time to sink in. That must be the case. The song Sweet Escape did not appeal to me until about February of 2007. I don't know-- it was just suddenly the best song ever at that particular moment in time. I would prance around listening to the song, whirling my daughter around on my hip. It was the perfect pep to my often sluggish mornings. This song & white chocolate Carmel lattes were just what I needed to start my day. Oh yea.

So what about you? What does this song mean to you?
