The boy is mine

Day 14

--STATS--

Artists: Brandy (& Monica)

Genre: R&B

Album: Never say never

Released: 1998

You need to give it up,
had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
the boy is mine.
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
he belongs to me,
the boy is mine.

Brandy:
I think it's time we got this straight.
Let's sit & talk face to face.
There is no way you could mistake
him for your man, are you insane?

Monica:
See, I know that you may be
just a bit jealous of me,
but your blind if you can't see
that his love is all in me.

Brandy:
See, I tried to hesitate.
I didn't wanna say what he told me.
He said without me he couldn't make
it through the day, ain't that a shame?

Monica:
Well, maybe you misunderstood,
cuz I can't see how he could
wanna change somethin' that's so good,
cuz my love is all it took.

You need to give it up,
had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
the boy is mine.
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
he belongs to me,
the boy is mine.

Monica:
Must you do the things you do,
keep on acting like a fool!
You need to know it's me, not you,
and if you didn't know it, girl, it's true.

Brandy:
I think that you should realize,
and try to understand why
he is apart of my life.
I know it's killing you inside!

Monica:
You can say what you wanna say,
what we have you can't take!
From the truth you can't escape,
I can tell the real from the fake!

Brandy:
When will you get the picture?
Your the past--I'm the future.
Get away, it's my time to shine,
and if you didn't know, the boy is mine!

You need to give it up,
had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
the boy is mine.
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
he belongs to me,
the boy is mine.

You need to give it up,
had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
the boy is mine.
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
he belongs to me,
the boy is mine.

Monica:
You can't destroy this love I've found,
these silly games I won't allow.
The boy is mine without a doubt,
you might as well throw in the towel.

Brandy:
What makes you think that he wants you,
when I'm the one that brought him to
this special place in my heart.
He was my love right from the start.

You need to give it up,
had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
the boy is mine.
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
he belongs to me,
the boy is mine.

No...no..You need to give it up!
Had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
the boy is mine....mine!
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
He belongs to me!

The boy is mine....
Monica: Not yours
Brandy: but mine
Monica: Not yours
Brandy: but mine
Monica: not yours
Brandy: but mine!

I'm sorry that you
seem to be confused.
It's not hard to see,
the boy is mine!

I apologize immediately for such a lame song choice, but this song was very popular once upon a time. Brandy's songs from her album Never say never were all over the air, & Monica wasn't doing so bad herself. Where are they now? Well, Monica seems to have done pretty well; Engaged, two children & a new album after a ten year break about to come out. Brandy, on the other hand...I don't know what to say. One album in 2002, followed by one reality special about her pregnancy & her relationship with her husband, who in the end, turned out not to be her husband (Yah- you figure that one out.). A wreck less driving charge in 2007 that left one person dead ( I'm not sure if she was ever convicted of manslaughter.) & an episode of Punk'd displaying some pretty shady behavior. I'll try not to judge, but the verdict is still out on that one.

This is pretty embarrassing, but I had this song memorized, start to finish. Typing it in today (only copying & pasting the chorus) I still didn't have to think very hard about the lyrics. That would be because one of my best friends & myself would perform the duet when we were home by ourselves. We would plug it in, crank up the volume & sass it up. We got very into it, I must say. She was Monica, & I would sing the part done by Brandy. It might have been pretty funny watching two very white girls singing a very R&B song. Seriously, though. You don't get any whiter than the two of us. The part about being good was most likely just in our heads. We shall never know, for no one ever got to chance to see us perform live. That's probably a very good thing. For a birthday gift one year, as a joke, my friend got me the Brandy barbie doll. It's just a shame they never made a Monica, or we could have used them to make a duet as well! Again, it was probably a good thing they didn't. I saved that doll. I figured I have kids someday. Realizing that someday is now, I pulled her out from the box I was storing her in the other day. Now Malibu barbie has a friend. Let's hope they play nicely.

What does this song mean to you?
