Take the long way home

So you think you're a Romeo,
playing a part in a picture-show.
Take the long way home.
Take the long way home.

If you're the joke of the neighborhood,
why should you care if you're feeling good?
Take the long way home.
Take the long way home.

There are times that you feel you're part of the scenery.
All the greenery is comin' down, boy.
And then your wife seems to think you're part of the furniture.
Oh, it's peculiar, she used to be so nice.

When lonely days turn to lonely nights,
you take a trip to the city lights,
and take the long way home.
Take the long way home.

You never see what you want to see,
forever playing to the gallery.
You take the long way home.
Take the long way home.

And when you're up on the stage, it's so unbelievable.
Unforgettable, how they adore you.
But then your wife seems to think you're losing your sanity.
Oh, calamity, is there no way out?

Though you feel that you life's become a catastrophe,
Oh, it has to be for you to go, boy.
When you look through the years and see what you could have been.
Oh, what might have been,
If you'd had more time.

So, when the day comes to settle down,
who's to blame if you're not around?
You took the long way home...
You took the long way home.....
Long way home...
Long way home...

Well, I don't know about that mean wife thing, but I often take the long way home, weather it be in the car, or on a stroll. I do my best thinking in the car, with the kids contained & occupied in the backseat. Isn't that kind of how it works with everyone who has kids? Just taking an extra ten minutes out of my day (taking the long way home), listening to my music, or thinking in silence can make a difference in my mood. You have to have that time to unwind. Walks are great for that as well. You get the exercise & that heavenly contact with the earth & sunshine that you wouldn't get from a car ride. Can't beat that.

Yesterday was a perfect day for this song. I even took the long way home. The whether was gorgeous, & the mood was right. I drove from my house to my parents, where I was house sitting for the weekend. What should have been a two minute drive, I made long enough to enjoy this song by taking the loop off Washington street, where I have to break for the stoplight. As I arrived, the song was coming to it's grand end. I almost felt I had left Kansas and stepped into Oz. That feeling abruptly ended as I cut the engine & the barking Golden Retriever made it very clear he was ready for his afternoon kibble. Oh well. The serenity was nice while it lasted.

Anyone else take the long way home?
