Such Great Heights

I'm thinking it's a sign,
that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images,
& when we kiss their perfectly aligned.
& I have to speculate,
that God himself did make us into corresponding shapes
like puzzle pieces from the clay.
& true, it may seem like a stretch,
but it's thoughts like this that cross my troubled head
when your away when I am missing you to death.
When your out there on the road,
for several weeks of shows & when you scan the radio,
I hope this song will guide you home.

They will see us waving from such great heights,
come down now, they'll say.
But everything looks perfect from far away,
come down now, but we'll stay.

I tried my best to leave,
this song on your machine but that persist beeping
sounded thin upon listening.
& that frankly will not fly,
you will hear the shrillest highs & lowest lows with the wind,
doze down when this is guiding your mind.

They will see us waving from such great heights,
come down now, they'll say.
But everything looks perfect from far away,
come down now, but we'll stay.

I know I have already blogged about Iron & Wine's version of this song, but this is the original & is just as good. Better in most peoples opinion. The Postal service is an Indie Electronica band consisting of Ben Gibbard & Jimmy Tamborello. Though they each have their own band already ( Death Cab for Cutie & Dntels.), they formed a side band together after collaborating on a song. Tamborello would write the music & lyrics, then ship Gibbard the demo via the USPS. He would then edit them & add his own vocals. Thus The Postal Service was the name of their duo.

Their resulting premier album was titled Give up & was released in 2003 with great results. Their song "Such Great Heights" has since been covered by several artists, & used in countless advertisements. In December 2009, , the song was rated the 27th best song of the decade by Rollingstone.com. Though they have been working on a much anticipated follow-up album since 2006, the two feel that it may never be released, as they are both busy with their bands & other things in life. It still remains to be one of the most highly anticipated albums that may never be.

I am certainly a fan of the tune myself. When I'm in a really good mood, I will pop this album on, or even just this song for a little electricity in my day. I credit Heidi for introducing me to The Postal Service. I believe she heard about them from her brother, who shares our similar taste in music. We played this song together on our way back from a camping trip
( Mt. Raineer) in the summer of 2005. Yes, I remember that. My brain is strange & plus that was the year of "Such Great Heights". It was immensely popular.

Do you know this one? You probably do. What do you think of?

P.S. I got the facts that I didn't already know about this group from Wikipedia.com if you want to learn more.
