Lyrics
Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin'
We could dream this night away.
But there's a full moon risin'
Let's go dancin' in the light
We know where the music's playin'
Let's go out and feel the night.
Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.
When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.
But now it's gettin' late
And the moon is climbin' high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin' in your eye.
Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.
This song has a simple melody to it. It almost doesn't seem like a Neil Young. It is though, & my favorite of his. The harmonica is soothing (not annoying like it could be!) & lyrics are sweet as honey. This tune is perfect for a Sunday drive as they say. "Harvest Moon" takes me back to the year 2001, as a Sophmore in hihj school. I was in the women's Jazz Chorus under the direction of a teacher named Cynthia Catchpole. She was a young woman who had actually attended Dallas High as a teenager herself.
It was Spring, & all the choirs were putting on a evening dessert production, sort of like a caboret. Though the details are fuzzy, I believe it was to fall on her & her husbands anniversary & wanted to sing a song for him. She chose "Harvest Moon", which was their song. Just her & her guitar. The Jazz Choir was to sing back up. If you haven't heard the song, the only other lines are "Oooo..." & "On this Harvest Moon" Simple, just how I like it. Most importantly, we had fun doing it, & I was glad to do something for someone else.
Does this song have history for you & a loved one?
